This is a picture of an article about fandom in the English adaption of the Shanghai Daily. Not only is it an interesting, informative and a very positive view of the fandoms, it also talks about specific fandoms like the Sherlock fandom and the Supernatural fandom.
An excerpt from the article reads: “These sites also allow people that would never have met each other in real life to communicate and, sometimes, band together to support causes. For example, the fandom of “Supernatural,” a television show, often helps charities as a result of the philanthropic actor who stars in the show.”
That would be Misha. The article goes on to discuss the positive affects of fandom and fanworks, mentioning Tumblr specifically. The article was written by Shannon Hwang and features the artwork of Alice X.
Alice, have you seen this?
I just really love this. Fandoms all too often get a negative wrap in the media. For whatever reason we get portrayed as a bunch of teens foaming at the mouth over gay ships. That’s all we amount to in media portrayal most of the time. This, however, is wonderful. We function as a family— a close-knit community. People generally underestimate the values we have as a community, so to see that there is a positive reflection of what we are is delightful.
I love that this article touches on how we do try and do good. We are capable of being decent and respectable human beings. It does not take a prominent figure to be a philanthropist or to produce beautiful art and thought. I can’t say enough how much I love this.
